Attending mass events can drive customers crazy at times. The main problem is the narrow sales window. In football the halftime is only 15 min, at hockey games the breaks are 17 min, theater intervals lasts for 15 min and so on. In most of these occasions sales window is only 10% of event’s total length. Therefore sales is inefficient. Everyone want´s to make the purchase at the same time. This causes massive queues, customer experience suffers and sales are lost. And yes, this is a global problem!
In mass events the queuing time varies from 5-13 minutes. The main cause of queues are slow cash or credit card payments combined with customers sluggish decision making.
Why not do the sales through-out the whole event, not only during breaks! Yonoton digitalizes mass events and provides an simple and fun way for end-users to choose & pay for products. Yonoton customers more often opt pre-ordering products before even entering the event. By doing this, they can fully focus on the event without worrying about queuing.

Yonoton mobile solution is highly scalable. It is essential tool for any place with masses of people: festivals, skiing centres, shopping malls, airports, airplanes, trains, cruise ships, entertainment & sporting events and so on.
We knew we had small team but wanted to create a world-class product. The product had to look and feel great from the very beginning. We had to use truly lightweight and agile process model. Team members had to have solid technical underestanding and long experience to avoid the most common pitfalls to not to waste the resources.
We created the Minimum Viable Product as fast as possible so we could reach the users and test the whole service with real users in real event to get the valuable feedback and to validate that we are going to right direction.
The idea was matured during several years but it took only three months in beginning of 2016 to actually build the MVP and to have the first live tests.
User Experience & Service Design
The application is not a separate product in digital world. It’s a product that is used in physical mass event environment and its purpose is to enhance the real-life event and to be as effective as possible when doing it.
In product like this the user experience goes far deeper than what is displayed on the smartphone screen. It's the flow of the whole order process from downloading the app to having the product in your hand. The experience is affected by the design of the Point of Service -application, the notifications and how the service can support and enhance the user’s overall event experience.
We wanted to test the product and observe users using the service as early as possible. We interviewed customers after successful purchases and learned how they felt about the Yonoton service. We observed the problems users had when purchasing the product and solved those issues in the next versions.
We are constantly collecting user feedback to maintain the great user experience in the future releases too.
Visual Design and Branding
Our goal was to design the visual identity of the product in a way that would make the user experience even better. The main focus was to highlight all of the UI’s important elements while retaining a fresh look and feel. To do so, we tested our visual design and elements with test users.
The typography was one of the first things we decided on. We knew we needed a solid typeface with many weights, so we chose Roboto. The bold use of Roboto’s thin and black weights give the application strong and clean appearance and that was the basis for everything else.
The colors and photographic style were something that we really wanted to stand out from other startups and competitors. The combination of magenta and blue and the photograph style give the app a unique yet clear identity.
This project encompassed the design of everything except the name and the original logo of the app and company.
Yonoton has really enchanced the customer experience in mass events. We have over-exceeded our promises to our clients by boosting sales by +55% at its best. These figures have been reached through earned media rather than bought advertising. Loads of work has been done since company only has three versatile and talented emloyees. Currently we have 23 commercial clients in total. This includes nearly one third of ice hockey league SM-liiga's teams and 14 restaurants and (NPG) night clubs.
Yonoton had a very succesfull first year in business and this hasn't gone unnoticed by big name investors. On February we successfully finished our 2nd seed round. This will push us closer to our goal, which is to be in the Central European markets by 2017!
